[SOLVED] New AMD GPU detected but displays nothing to monitors

I just replaced my ancient AMD R9 290X with a slightly-less-ancient AMD 6750XT. My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X. I use sway window manager without a display manager.

My problem is that I get no post-boot display output from the new GPU. If I boot with my monitor connected to the GPU, I will see the mobo splashscreen briefly, then all output ceases and my monitor says "no output detected", and sleeps. At that point, I can swap my monitor to display directly from the motherboard via integrated graphics, and that works fine.

The GPU is detected by ArchLinux, as I can see it as a VGA controller in lspci output.

The kernel module amdgpu is loaded. Since I am just moving from AMD card to AMD card, I can't imagine this would be an issue.

I have copied what I believe to be the relevant portion of dmesg output here: https://0x0.st/Po98.txt

I greatly welcome your troubleshooting suggestions and tips. Please let me know if there's any more information I could provide.

Edit: See my last comment in this thread for resolution.

[ 7.457460] amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: amdgpu: device lost from bus!

What is the brand & model of your motherboard ?
Are you using the latest firmware for it ?

Please post the full journal/dmesg output , also lspci -k

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Dmesg output: https://0x0.st/Po4e.txt

lspci -k output: https://0x0.st/Po42.txt

Motherboard is a Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA. I have firmware version F2 and the latest is F39.

Upgrading BIOS will be a bit of an adventure but I can try it out and see where it gets me with the GPU.

Thank you!

be aware about update notes: sometimes one is required to install several versions in between as full upgrad from such early versions are often not supported
look closely at each version if some minimum previous one is required - otherwise you can end up with bricking your uefi

Re: [SOLVED] New AMD GPU detected but displays nothing to monitors

SOLVED without having to update BIOS.

My machine is built in a mini-ITX case with a GPU riser card, which uses PCIe <=3.0. My previous GPU used PCIe 3.0 as well. The new GPU uses PCIe 4.0.

To force compatibility with the riser card, I needed to enter BIOS settings and update the value of "PCIEX16 Slot Configuration" from "Auto" to "Gen3".

As usual, the problem was the user's forgetfulness. I had simply forgotten that my riser card only supported PCIe <=3.0.

Thank you everyone who commented for the help!
