For the past maybe 2 months, I've been having issues with mpv causing the whole system to freeze for several seconds. Usually upon exit but sometimes in between or during videos. I had hoped it was just a bug that would have been worked out by now. My guess is it's something to do with Nvidia drivers or Wayland.

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.

What "wayland"?
Is this a hybrid graphics system?
Do you get any errors in the system journal?
Does "mpv --gpu-context=x11" cause the same, resp. do you get the same on an X11 session?

Turns out I had plugged one of the monitors into the onboard video when I was updating the DP firmware on a friend's Nvidia card and forgot to switch it back! Has been working normally for the past week with both screens running off the card.
