Hallo,
today I encountered a strange error. Aplay (called by gaim) and Firefox were affected, but the error message was very similar. The kernel.log says:
Mar 23 13:38:27 Linux <1>BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000007c
The complete logs are here:
Firefox: http://pastebin.archlinux.org/2066
Aplay: http://pastebin.archlinux.org/2067
Kernel: 2.6.20.3-3 unmodified
My hardware is ok, as far as I can tell. I made a memtest and some stress test. Besides Windows doesn't show any uncommon behaviour. Boot up was normal, but recently I had some hard freezes, which I don't know where they came from.
Thanks for your help,
hightower

Did this happen after a pacman -Syu? If so, list the upgraded packages.

All my problems are literally dust in the wind. After cleaning my PC and removing all the dust which has gathered in my case for many years, the issues are gone. I think it was a heat problem which affected the RAM and/or the electronic components built around it.
