Hello, just created account to seek help.

As i dont know where to post, im no graybeard developer, just a user. But knowing, that if this does not get resolved, i end up with broken system, and this is unacceptable because this my main battle station.
So, the problem is that whenever i run MPV media in fullscreen, i get artifacting like white sometimes colored like bad noise from old CRT TV's, lines across the screen.
When i set mpv to use opengl, using conf file, it works fine.
Im not sure, if anything else is not working so i stay away from this kernel.
Using linus-lts works fine, but has this sort of strobing/flickering feeling when watching media on same mpv. Feels like VRR is not working, as it should not because of physical limitations.
Small description of my system:
Archlinux KDE
Specs:
9950x CPU
7900xtx GPU
DDR5 96gb
Soundblaster Z PCIe add in
few nvme's
few hdd's
few ssd's
Many USB devices, like few mice few keyboards and some other like ESP32 and the likes.
Displays:
2x DP 2k monitors - 144hz and 360hz 8bit
1x DP DP2HDMI adapter 4k120hz OLED TV (LG G4) 8bit color
I can use either 2x monitors or 1x tv at the same time due to bandwidth limitations.
Problem is visible on TV. The monitors i tested seems to not have this problem. Might be because they are 2k and the flickering was squashed to the point that its no rendering because pixel is too small or something. On TV it seemed like maybe few pixels wide, but happens so fast, its visible to eye, but hard to capture on camera phone.
DP2hdmi adapter: Cable matters
DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI Adapter

This started mid december 2025, as i upgrade once in 2 weeks because for obvious reasons.
Upgrade 2025-12-11 (was working)
```
mesa (1:25.2.7-1 -> 1:25.3.1-2)
linux (6.17.8.arch1-1 -> 6.17.9.arch1-1)
```
Upgrade 2025-12-27 (got broken)
```
mesa (1:25.3.1-2 -> 1:25.3.2-1)
linux (6.17.9.arch1-1 -> 6.18.2.arch2-1)
```
Last known linux that works for me `6.17.9.arch1-1`
Current linux-lts also works but like i mentioned earlier, i get this subtle strobing flickering effect. But when using ` 6.17.9.arch1-1` all is good. Like a proper PC. Feels good to use.
So if anyone feels like guiding me or what command to input to post the output here to help me help yall resolve this issue, i'd appreciate.
Thanks

Hi kuligs2,
I was having a similar issue, have had the problem for a month or so. Fixed it today by opening display configuration and setting the color accuracy to "Prefer efficiency" and limit color resolution to "Automatic (10 bits per color)".
Have the same GPU but running CachyOS.
I was also having crashes in games when pushing the GPU past 80% for the last month, and is now all good also.
Hope this helps with your issue.

I already have it set to "Prefer efficiency" and limit color resolution to "8 bits per color". Otherwise i have blackouts as i remember..
