darkman doesn't seem to have an effect for triggering dark mode

Hey,

I've installed darkman recently to control light/dark mode as per the ArchWiki's recommendation.

I'm on XFCE4, created a darkman config to enable dbus and so on, have xfsettings installed, and as I read the docs, that should be enough for things to run? However nothing happens in the interface when I test with "darkman toggle". I've tested adding some custom scripts to see whether darkman itself works when toggling, and those scripts run. I'm guessing there could be workarounds of adding various switching into those scripts, but I thought it wouldn't be necessary with the XDG mechanisms...

Is there any configuration I might be missing?
