Is this possible?

I am a big fan of Arch, and I especially like what the Arch64 people have done. Now, I am also a Gentoo user, but one thing I've found about Gentoo is there is much better 32-bit support.

Even though there is Gnash, which I strongly support, I still like to have Flash around for youtube. Something I've wondered about, was if it was possible to create a .pkg.tar.gz of konqueror (my favorite web browser) and of Flash, using an i686 installation. Then, I'd store the binaries on a server and install Arch64. Finally, I could install the packages in my Arch64 installation, and since they are compiled for 32-bit, Flash would work.

Is this possible?

I would think a better bet would be to look at the lib32 packages in community and AUR. You should be able to get everything working with them. Also, check out nspluginwrapper from AUR for a simple way to get 32-bit firefox plugins to work in Arch64 with 64-bit firefox.

Re: Is this possible?

Arch64 has fine 32bit support, check lib32-* packages! I installed flash9 package from i686 arch and run it in 32bit opera. I heard it's possible to run flash9 in konqueror using nspluginwrapper

Re: Is this possible?

Thank you all for your replies smile I will probably try both the 32-bit libs and nspluginwrapper to see which works best.

And when you say I need the lib32 packages, are you talking about lib32-glibc? I am not exactly sure what I should be doing from there. What can I do after I have the lib32 packages installed?

Re: Is this possible?

Don't install all of the lib32 packages. You should just install the ones you need. For example, if you goto aur.archlinux.org and lookup nspluginwrapper you'll see a list of deps. Install the packages listed as deps and then you should be find. With this approach you don't need any special build of the browser.

There's been work on it, but it doesn't. The good news for Konqueror people (like myself), is you can right click, and 'Open in Firefox'. Firefox's nearly exclusive purpose on my machine is as a Flash viewer!
