sound problem

My asus A8V-VM mobo has ADI1986AD on-board sound card. Since I had some issues with it (like a shrll noise attched to the sound while playback), I tried to use a spare Crytsal CS4281 sound card. I ran alsaconf, alsamixer and alsactl store commands and selected the correct CS4281 driver. But I get no sound (even after a restart). The same sound card works in Zenwalk.

Re: sound problem

Maybe try to disable your onboard sound in bios? Then try again.

Re: sound problem

you may need to unmute it .. also, what echo suggested is correct, chances are that the onboard sound is still in use ...

amixer set PCM 85% unmute
amixer set Master 95% unmute

`alsamixer` shows the name of sound card in use as well ...

Re: sound problem

alsamixer shows adi1986a sound card only.
But /etc/modprobe.conf shows cs4281.
Anyhow I'll try to change the bios settings and try again.

Re: sound problem

Thanks echo ! Disabling the on board sound card in bios setting did the trick.
