BIOS gone wired after compiling NVIDIA driver and WINE

PRE:
Yesterday (this morning) I tried to run Diablo2 on my newly installed Arch box. Years ago I didn't it on SuSE and it ran perfect. But not this time... so I compiled the NVIDIA driver, and that speeded up my frame rate. When I tried to compile WINE... but that didn't work. Can't run Diablo 2 in full screen anymore. (if I does it used the glide-wrapper drivers I downloaded and only gives me 1 fps at the most). I can't get  the video mode change in the video mode setup prg.

NOW
When I boot my machine this morning, the BIOS tries to boot from network (I didn't touch the bios), and every second time I boot there is graphics and boot error, once the boot process come to IDE-0. It starts booting with NETWORK, FLOPPY SCSI and CDROM before it tries IDE-0. If I choose my harddisks (IDE-0 or IDE-1 - Arch or Damn Small Linux) from the bios boot menu, then it still tries the NETWORK, FLOPPY SCSI and CDROM before IDE.

XFCE4 starts without panel or desktop icons - but I think I fixed that now.

How can this happen?!? Can or should NVIDIA, WINE and DIABLO be able to affect the BIOS's booting?
And how to correct it?

lallepot:

The archlinux installation is best made from the 0.8 version due to system changes.

You would probably solve your problem with a new arch install.  If not, the bios may have failed.

Re: BIOS gone wired after compiling NVIDIA driver and WINE

i used to have similar problems with an old mobo i had (& miss it)
ecs's k7s5a at one point it changed my year to like 1400 something
after doing alot of research i found out the bios goes corrupt sometimes
i needed to open the box & reset via jumper every few months almost a year sometimes
you could also look to see if there is an upgrade version of your bios BUT BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
you may even want to check to see if you can find  spare good bios chip
check your local pc store i paid $20.00 us for 5 chips for that board all with good files on them
if you do that you can flash your bios with confidence that
if you put wrong bios in all you have to do is change chip
once youve become familiar with that look for a tweaked bios that may unlock some settings
or find some utility for changing the logo to something more personal (if you want to get into that stuff)

what mobo you got?
revision , bios version ?
