FTP Arch 64 - SLOW Repositories!

I'm attempting to install Arch 64 via FTP.  During the installation, it everything downloaded at a decent speed (probably because I was on a repository different then the one in the sources list).  Running from the hard drive, packages download down in the bytes.  It's awful!  What's going on here?  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

use a mirror, main server is being throtled, check /etc/pacman.d/*

Which mirror do you recommend I use?

Also, is /etc/pacman.d/ a list of mirrors or the same as /etc/pacman.conf?

/etc/pacman.d is a directory that contains several small files. Each file contains a list of servers for it's namesake repo. You then need to select a mirror to replace ftp.archlinux.org at the top of each file.

There was a recent announcement that gives a bit more detail about the throttling of the main arch repository.

Try sortmirrors

sortmirrors is buggy and has been known to blank all files in /etc/pacman.d/

try rankmirrors instead (expected to be included with pacman 3 I believe)

For me it always worked fine
