Help troubleshooting computer not waking up from suspend

1. This morning I woke up my laptop from sleep, and all seemed ok.

2. Then after half an hour or so, I put it to sleep again.

3. When I opened the lid again, it wouldn't wake up upon me pressing a key.

4. So I pressed the power button (once, without holding) and it booted successfully, revealing it had basically powered off instead of suspended.

Why could have this happened?

I had updated the system several times since the previous boot, and I'm pretty sure the kernel had been updated too, possibly more than once, so you might tell me that I was asking for trouble, but I'm curious to know some more detail about the incident, irrespective of whether me not rebooting after a kernel update was indeed the cause of the failed suspension/wakeup.

Below is the output of `journalctl --since="2026-05-16 09:25:00"`, i.e. since a few seconds before I suspended the system the second time (step 2 above)

In case, see the 3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.
Windows might have scheduled/triggered the reboot.

Otherwise, were you sleeping on battery or AC?
Might you have run out of power?

Yes, but I haven't opened it for ages (likely years).

seth wrote:

I'm pretty sure I've done that already (who knows how long ago), but I can do it again, yes.

seth wrote:

I might have forgotten the twice on windows. Anyway, I've just done as you said:
screenshot of the prompt right?

seth wrote:

I was on AC and I did not run out of power because when I forcefully rebooted, the battery was still 100% full and the laptop still connected to AC.

Re: Help troubleshooting computer not waking up from suspend

Since issue in the original post is not overly recurring (hence I don't know if we've really fixed it), should I mark this thread as SOLVED and reopen it in the future if need be, or should I live it open and remember to close it in, say, a few weeks from now?
