[RESOLVED] 5GHz wifi unstable

I noticed my wifi is slow so I decided to see what band it uses, and yeah, it was 2.4GHz, so i manually changed it with

nmcli connection modify <my wifi> 802-11-wireless.band a

and as soon as I changed it to 5GHz, my connection became even worse, and unstable. When I do ping 1.1.1.1 i get 50-70% packet loss, and the wifi is very slow.

There's nothing inherently wrong w/ that - n/ac/ax and be all support 2.4GHz and it will be more robust (against distance and some shielding)

Undo your "fix" and elaborate on the status-quo-ante.
If you want to use a 5GHz AP that's fine (provided you're close enough) but you most certainly don't want to use 802.11a from 1999

I have undid everything an i am back to 2.4GHz speeds, at around 80Mb/s, but i want to use the full 300Mb/s speed. I though maybe check the router settings but now I can't log into the router for some reason, like the password stopped working, i reset the router and tried the original password that it should've rolled back to and that one doesn't work for some reason, I tried the password from the manual, the original one that it had when it came, and nothing works, i dont know what to do.

Are you positive that you're even connected to that AP?
How can you connect to it after resetting it? It should™ no longer accept your wifi-password (which is typically different from the login password)
Can you connect to it w/ an ethernet cable?

i was able to log into the router, basically guessing, took a while, also when connected trough ethernet i have full 300Mb/s, I don't know networking that well, my networking class starts next year, but like i'm pretty sure 5GHz is faster, my sister had a similar issue on her old laptop and i fixed it by setting it to 5GHz, now that i have access to the router i can try tweaking some settings

wait nvm, after resetting the router settings now i get 300Mb/s on wifi, it automatically connected me to the 5GHz band and the connection seems stable, the router may have been misconfigured lol

The band has only indirect impact on the performance, heavily depending on the physical environment.
802.11a is however for sure not faster than anything specified in the last 25 years.
You'll now be using ac or ax, maybe n.
