Missing depenency in firefox package [resolved, misunderstanding]

Upgraded package 'firefox' to version 153.0.3-1 and got "/usr/lib/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.44' not found (required by /usr/lib/firefox/libmozsqlite3.so)"  The package dependencies say "glibc" not "glibc=2.44"

I went to the firefox package repo, filed a report asking the package to be updated to include the glibc=2.44 dependency, and got told "It works fine for everyone else. You have a local problem of some kind. Please try the support forum."

So where's the support forum for "this package is missing a dependency" ?

The package is not missing anything. Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/System … nsupported

Re: Missing depenency in firefox package [resolved, misunderstanding]

Thank you I understand now.  "Partial upgrades are not supported, and this is the definition of a partial upgrade[link]" is a useful answer.

I attempted the partial upgrade because I cannot `pacman -Suy` because some of the packages that would be installed do not work with my hardware (closed-source drivers from vendors, not choices made by Archlinux).  I wasn't aware that partial upgrades are out-of-scope for the Archlinux project, and now I understand.

If you want to address that please open a new thread and be less vague about the situation, but prima face: using the LTS kernel doesn't get you out of that situation?

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.

`pacman -Syu` will remove nvidia-570xx-dkms and install nvidia-580xx-dkms.
nvidia-580xx-dkms does not recognize the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 video card in my computer "no device found".  Reading the changelog for the drivers, I'm informed the vendor chose to drop support for some of their products.
I still had a text terminal, but had to undo the rolling release to get the 570xx drivers back.  I'm stuck with a "partial release" now.

I'm not asking for tech support, I know what the problem is -- the vendor publishes closed-source drivers and decided to shun their own products -- and I know the only solutions are to keep using old drivers or to purchase different hardware.

Re: Missing depenency in firefox package [resolved, misunderstanding]

Neither of those are in the repos, https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?O=0&K=580xx will not be added by pacman -Syu
GTX 1050 should™ be a pascal chip what means it absolutely should™ be supported by the 580xx drivers, but you'll probably rather move to nvidia-open (which does not support that generation)?

I know the only solutions are to keep using old drivers or to purchase different hardware.

No, you might believe that, but you're wrong.

If you need help w/ installing the 580xx drivers, please open a new thread

This is what I see:

pacman -Su
:: Replace nvidia-570xx-dkms with extra/nvidia-580xx-dkms? [Y/n]

Maybe I've got a bad mirrorlist ?

As for the "new drivers no worky," yes I'll use a different subforum; this is the pacman/packaging subforum.

Re: Missing depenency in firefox package [resolved, misunderstanding]

This has to come from some 3rd party repo, post the output of

pacman-conf

in your new thread as well

Unlikely as there never has been a nvidia-580xx-dkms package in archlinux repos.
Some archlinux-based distros do have that package in their repos though.

Please post pacman-conf output in the new thread.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
