Migrate users from AUR to extra package

Hi guys,

I maintain the xfce4-panel-compiz package which ships the Xfce panel with some Compiz related patches. Since version 4.20.8 all patches are merged into the release (besides of one patch which is actually not Compiz related), so the package has become redundant.

Is there anything I can do to make it a smooth transition for potential users besides of just deleting the package? I already posted an informational comment on the AUR page, but once the package is deleted, the comment will also be gone...

The very worst thing you can do with free software is to download it, see that it doesn't work for some reason, leave it, and tell your friends that it doesn't work.  -  Tuomas Lukka

Re: Migrate users from AUR to extra package

You could make it a dummy package that does not provide nor conflict but instead depend on xfce4-panel.
You should test though whether pacman -U is smart enough to handle that transition (because installing the package will only remove the dependency it now requires - feels like typing google into google)
