Can the popularity field be improved?

I believe that the popularity field as it currently is is quite flawed. A package will jump up hundreds of rankings just by getting one vote, and people not voting for a package does not mean it is not popular.

Is it possible to use pkgstats.archlinux.de as the data source for the popularity field instead? The votes field can be left unchanged.

pkgstats is not tied to any account, so anyone can pollute (and indeed it already happened multiple times) the statistics to make a package more popular
