[SOLVED] Plasma shell stops working when disconnecting monitor

Hi, I'm connecting my laptop to an external monitor and my issue is, when unplugging the monitor, the plasma panel, desktop background, desktop menus, etc. completely disappear, as if the process stopped working entirely. The window management still works fine
and I can launch apps with Alt+Space, but the Super key does not open the panel menu whatsoever. Apps like preferences still work fine too. Seems to be a problem with the shell, I assume.

How can I share logs for this? My specs are:

Do you get a https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_d … _core_dump of a potential crash? Are you setting any environment variables to control which GPU should be preferred? Can you restore things by running

plasmashell --replace

in the Alt+Space KRunner prompt?

I've been disabling the integrated GPU in the BIOS, yes, and that seems to be the issue, since it works fine when using dynamic graphics.
plasmashell --replace did nothing when trying to recover the session.
No info when searching for plasmashell coredumps either.

I'll try and use dynamic graphics again, I disabled it because the iGPU's usage would skyrocket when opening the CEMU (WiiU emulator) window for whatever reason (which I don't get, because the game does use the dGPU).

I'd expect a UEFI/BIOS level setting to reroute things in a manner that would "logically" tie the integrated display to the nvidia gpu regardless. Do you just never get a display on the integrated panel when disabling the iGPU in your EFI? FWIW afaik a lot of the overhead for a mixed GPU setup on Plasma Wayland should get fixed "soon", see also https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/202 … i-gpu.html and maybe try some of the "helpful" measures (e.g. does CEMU run natively on Wayland and are you fullscreening it?)

Yeah, in general the desktop experience is more laggy when using the hybrid setup, and that just doesn't happen with the dedicated GPU only.
If I disable the iGPU in my EFI, the integrated screen works just fine, as does the external monitor. I don't think it's a problem on the CEMU side, because resources in general go haywire when running Tekken 8 with Proton as well and the laptop starts to lag heavily.
Now, new issue (tried with both setups), if I try to share my screen on Discord twice, xdg-desktop-portal-kde crashes and plasmashell does too if I try to restart the portal. At least I got a log this time:

EDIT: After this plasmashell crash in particular, I can just run

systemctl --user restart plasma-plasmashell.service

and the session will recover, portal included, no issue. But it's still weird.

Check whether there're matching kernel messages in the system journal, the current thread is in pthread_cond_timedwait() when the segfault happens, so likely some timeout while kscreen is polling the outputs…
