hp-plugin v3.26.6-1 is not working

During last update I have got a new hplip package and, as usual, I ran "hp-plugin -i"  to update the plugin.

This is what happened:

-----------------------------------------
| PLUG-IN INSTALLATION FOR HPLIP 3.26.6 |
-----------------------------------------

  Option Description
  ---------- --------------------------------------------------
d Download plug-in from HP (recommended)
p Specify a path to the plug-in (advanced)
  q Quit hp-plugin (skip installation)

Enter option (d=download*, p=specify path, q=quit) ?

-------------------
| DOWNLOAD PLUGIN |

Downloading plug-in: [\ ] 0% Plugin is not accessible. Trying to download it from fallback location: [https://developers.hp.com/sites/default/files/hplip-3.26.6-plugin.run]
error: Plug-in download failed.

error: /home/user/.hplip/hplip-3.26.6-plugin.run file not found

I cannot recall whether that "Downloading plug-in from: " was empty also last time I ran it.

Anyway, it does not work,

Re: hp-plugin v3.26.6-1 is not working

The fallback link it tries to use is correct, but developers.hp.com seems to accept only a very specific user agent .

The hplip-plugin package in aur uses a specially crafted user agent to download the plugin with curl .

Try using that package ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Yes, it does not work, besides being a little bit outdated:

    hplip-plugin-3.26.4.run.asc ... Skipped

==> ERROR: One or more PGP signatures could not be verified!
error: failed to download sources for 'hplip-plugin-3.26.4-1':
error: packages failed to build: hplip-plugin-3.26.4-1

"hplip" (non-AUR) package itself has a major issue.
It is not fully self-contained and requires an extra external download to be fully functional.
Likely due to pesky licensing.
This download is not part of the package release process so it keeps being more prone to issues.

besides being a little bit outdated:

I added an aur comment with info how to adjust the  PKGBUILD to use the latest version (I have an hp printerscanner that also needs it) .

Nothing archlinux devs can do about that, there are hp printers that don't require a proprietary plugin.
