nvidia - black screen after resume from sleep

Hi everyone, since the last update, i cannot wake the PC
from sleep, all i get is a black screen, i need to reset the whole system.
All i can see in logs is this single line:

kernel: nvidia-modeset: WARNING: GPU:0: Lost display notification (0:0x00000000); continuing.

I also have an LTS kernel installed, but i'm having the same issue with that too.
Even tried to unplug the display port cable and back, but nothing.
Already tried modset, preserve framebuffer on/off, nvidia systemd services.
If i sleep the system and turn it back on after less than a minute, it wakes up, but if i leave it
longer, like even a half hour, nothing ...
Where should I search next?

So some ata device struggles w/ the wakeup as well and your ethernet device starts to flicker - looks more like a wider PCI issue

Its happened with me too. The solution is to disable the "hibernate" and "suspend" options on the"power settings". Disabling the screen saver can prevent this as well.

Try it:

archlinux # pacman -S xscreensaver

Steps:

1 - Launch the xscreensaver application
2 - On "Mode" option select "Disable Screen Saver".
3 - In the "File" menu click on "Kill Daemon"

Now your system will never automatically suspend again.

The kernel messages might be red herrings - the monitor might unregister after some DPMS timeout and kde auto-removes and never restores it.

On my nvidia system I lose the ability to even get any display out if I turn off the monitor - the second I turn off monitor, it's gone. No display. This is most likely the same driver bug presenting itself. Downgrading to an earlier driver should work around this, I don't really know which driver it was introduced in though since last I updated and used the nvidia system was probably months ago so I skipped a huge number of driver updates to arrive at the current one.

I can confirm the same symptoms as the rest with the latest Nvidia driver update. Previously when this happened, I was able to remotely login from another device and safely reboot. Now am unable to even ssh into the system.

You don't know what you're talking about... I experienced many times this some issue, because I have a NVIDIA graphics card too... Its not random "bullshit"... Still my system has the same issue (related with NVIDIA drivers) and I don't need "suspend mode", so I disabled it and solved the problem.

Which part of that do you dispute?

The nvidia drivers currently seem to struggle w/ DPMS related output losses, but you cannot transfer random stuff that might be relevant to your setup onto other systems.
If you want to disable DPMS or screenlocker in KDE/wayland, it resp. powerdevil has settings for that. Installing xscreensaver is certainly not a part of that.

Edit: even if we assume that xscreensaver can control dpms on random wayland compositors (possibly supporting zwlr_output_power_manager_v1 ?), it's still pointless to use it to deactivate dpms in the compositor instead of just deactivating it in the compositor.
Edit #2: in case you're running KDE or anything on X11 see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Displa … _Signaling on how to disable DPMS w/o xscreensaver, but this isn't generically applicable to "wayland" where the most straight forward way is to use the settings of the compositor/DE

Regardless of the clunky approach #6 might next to #8 and #10 and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p2310263 still point towards the nvidia driver update as cause for the immediate symptom.
If you look at older journals, did you have wakeup related issues w/ the ATA bus and ethernet device before?

(Though the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is probably not inside a notebook so disabling aspm will likely not have all that drastic impact on the overall power consumption)
