Circular dependencies? phonon-qt6 and phonon-qt6-vlc and vlc plugins

Hi everyone,

today I uninstalled Okular, forgot the flag to uninstall dependencies and hence I used

pacman -Qdtq | pacman -Rns -

to get rid of them. I had previously noticed a huge amount of VLC packages being installed and wondered why those weren't being removed now. Turns out it was because there are two pairs of packages that depend on each other: phonon-qt6 and phonon-qt6-vlc, and also vlc-plugins-base and vlc-plugin-matroska. Once I uninstalled all four, I could clean up the remaining dependencies.

a) Aren't circular dependencies forbidden?
b) Is there any way to track down packages like these - that have been installed as dependency, are required by other packages but those other packages only exist because they are required by the former package?

Fwiw:

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/phonon-qt6/ depends on *a* "phonon-qt6-backend" which is only de facto https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … n-qt6-vlc/ because there're no other backends (packaged)

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … -matroska/ only links libvlccore.so, so that's possibly an artifact of splitting the plugins and might be a genuine packaging bug - but there could also be runtime dependencies.
