[SOLVED] recent cups update changed printing margins on lpr -p

After recent updates, when I print text with lpr -p, I get more space at the top and left and the print area is smaller. It looks like it's suddenly defaulting to A4 page size. If I add "-o media=letter" it prints like it was before. I've tried setting defaults with lpoptions, but that doesn't seem to help.

solved by setting

lpoptions -o media=letter
