[SOLVED] akregator keeps crashing after updating my system

Hi, i updated my system and akregator crashes and gives this output in the terminal

akregator: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14QWebEnginePage17runJavaScriptImplERK7QStringjPN9QtPrivate15QSlotObjectBaseE, version Qt_6

i asked opencode to help me find the cause and it spat this out

Root cause: partial Qt 6.12 transition on Arch.
- qt6-base 6.12.0-2 / qtcore/qtversion.h: QT_VERSION_STR "6.12.0"
- qt6-webengine 6.11.2-2 still 6.11, headers still old:
qwebenginepage.h:289-290 only has runJavaScript(), no runJavaScriptImpl()
- messagelib 26.08.2-1 (provides /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6, built Oct 7) already requires new 6.12 symbol:

# QWebEnginePage::runJavaScriptImpl(QString const&, unsigned int, QSlotObjectBase*)
but installed libQt6WebEngineCore.so.6 only provides old runJavaScript(...std::function...). Hence akregator/akonadiimportwizard/kmail via libKPim6MessageViewer fail.
Verified: cached messagelib-26.08.1-1 has no such U symbol, so it matches installed webengine.
Workaround until qt6-webengine 6.12.0 lands in [extra]:
sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/messagelib-26.08.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst \
  /var/cache/pacman/pkg/akregator-26.08.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
akregator # test
Then hold to avoid re-break on -Syu:
# /etc/pacman.conf -> IgnorePkg = messagelib akregator
Fix is sudo pacman -Syu once pacman -Si qt6-webengine shows 6.12.0, then remove IgnorePkg.
This is an Arch packaging ordering bug - worth reporting: messagelib 26.08.2-1 pushed before qt6-webengine 6.12.

No — that commit is the break.

upgpkg: 6.11.2-2: Rebuild 6.11.2 with Qt 6.12
- _pkgver=6.140.0-rc -> 6.11.2
History:
- f701f0a 6.11.2-1: Qt 6.11.2
- 829cfb6 6.140.0rc-1: Qt 6.12.0 (webengine versioned by Chromium 140)
- f220423 6.11.2-2: revert back to old 6.11.2 sources, just rebuilt against qt6-base 6.12 headers
That rebuild makes libQt6WebEngineCore.so.6 itself load on 6.12 base, but it still exports the old API:
- provides: QWebEnginePage::runJavaScript(QString, uint, std::function...)
- missing: QWebEnginePage::runJavaScriptImpl(QString, uint, QSlotObjectBase*) — new in 6.12
Your messagelib 26.08.2-1 (built Oct 7 14:24 IST, before that revert landed Oct 8 00:39 IST) was built against 6.140.0rc-1 headers, so it needs the new symbol. Then webengine was pulled out from under it.
So you have 6.12 PIM + 6.12 base + 6.11 webengine. Nothing to do but downgrade messagelib/akregator to 26.08.1-1 from cache, or wait for real qt6-webengine 6.12.0 final.

I ran into this same issue, but with korganizer. I recompiled messagelib-26.08.2-1 in a clean chroot and this fixed the issue. It seems the messagelib compilation might have compiled against the incorrect version of qt6-webengine.

korganizer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKPim6WebEngineViewer.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14QWebEnginePage17runJavaScriptImplERK7QStringjPN9QtPrivate15QSlotObjectBaseE, version Qt_6

Recompile fixed.

i think it got fixed
updated my system again and akregator started working
