[SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

Hello everyone,

In the release notes of GNOME 51 (available here: https://release.gnome.org/51/ ) is announced that oo7 may be used as secret store, in place of gnome-keyring. It seems that this is currently not reflected in GNOME provided by Arch Linux. Would it be possible to offer the choice between gnome-keyring and oo7? As far as I can tell, the change would concern GDM in particular. There exists upstream various pam config files, and some of them indeed enable optionally both oo7 and gnome-keyring (see for instance: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/tr … type=heads ).

Re: [SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

I would expect everything to work. However, at the moment the pam config files provided with the gdm package only contain configurations for gnome-keyring.
While upstream seems to provide pam config files with the correct configurations (allowing oo7 or gnome-keyring out of the box).

Re: [SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

The pam configs are provided upstream and discriminatory; GDM *only* changed the one for redhat, not those for other distros.

Their gitlab is frequently 406 so I can't see hether the commit message explains that.

wtf?

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/co … a/pam-arch
@heftig originally submitted the pam configs 11 years ago but they've recently been patched by others - I've frankly no idea who maintains them (at GDM) but the way this would work is that the pam configs get patched at GDM and then the patches can be cherry-picked by the GDM archlinux package before/until the next upstream release

=> file a bug at GDM, this isn't exactly rocket science.

Re: [SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

I see. Also, I have installed oo7 and modified the pam config files provided by gdm (in /usr/lib/pam.d/) and everything seems to work fine. Anyway, this post was simply to let the ArchLinux maintainers be aware of the new possibility to use oo7 with GNOME, as I thought something as to be done on the ArchLinux side.

Re: [SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

this post was simply to let the ArchLinux maintainers be aware

That would be through https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/ … work_items - the BBS is a user-2-user helpdesk.

But as mentioned and while I don't understand the maintenance concept here (ie. why GDM is maintaining distro specific pam configs but punts to the distros to maintain them) at all: the patch needs to end up in GDMs gitlab first and foremost and turning one hard into two soft options really doesn't require any insight into the distros PAM stack.

Re: [SOLVED] GNOME and oo7

Thank you for sending this patch, which has already been merged!
I guess it means that future package versions of GDM in Arch Linux will make use of these pam configuration files.
