after a general update, I can no longer login to kde/plasma through sddm. after accepting password, it immediately returns to the login screen.
journalctl shows various processes crashing, including kwin_wayland and plasmashell
coredumpctl shows tens of lines after each login attempt.
writing this from another computer, so copying detailed logs would be tricky, but if there are specific things to look for I'll try. probably unrelated, but for a day before the update the screen saver would crash and had to be disabled from tty each time.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

update: dmesg shows multiple segfaults from ld0linux-x86-64.so.2

this is resolved.
Claude walked me through using a debugger on the coredump, which eventually identified /var/lib/libvulkan.so.1 as faulty. somehow this file was corrupted, (pacman -Qkk shows an altered file) and reinstalling that package seems to fix the issue. How the file got corrupted I do not know. Could my drive be dying?
key points in the process:
coredumpctl list
#identify first relevant coredump
export DEBUGINFOD_URLS=https://debuginfod.archlinux.org
#as root:
coredumpctl debug <pid>
bt
