How to start all over with Dropbox for correctly showing the tray icon

Hi there, I searched in this forum for "dropbox tray gpgme" and didn't find much.

I've just installed Dropbox on Arch, via `makepkg -si` from the AUR package, and started it via `dropbox &` and closed the terminal.

So far so good, the `~/Dropbox` dir is created, and stuff synced.

But I entirely overlooked that

Before launching dropboxAUR for the first time, it is mandatory to have python-gpgme

written at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dropbo … l_packages.

I've now installed that `python-gpgme` package, but not *_before [...] the first time_*, so I was wondering whether that's the reason I don't see a system tray icon and, therefore, whats the proper way to start all over again.

I suppose I could just

kill $(pidof dropbox)
sudo pacman -R dropbox
rm -rf ~/Dropbox # maybe this is redundant? It's just under 3 G of stuff, really
cd /path/to/my/aur/packages/dropbox
makepkg -si
dropbox &

I think it's important to add that I use no DE, but XMonad as WM + Xmobar as status bar, and that I show system tray via the trick described at https://xmonad.org/TUTORIAL.html and it works (e.g. Steam and Flameshot's icons are correctly shown when I open those programs).

Regarding the trick, there's one side question I have. I have trayer installed:

pacman -Qi trayer
Name : trayer
Version : 1.1.8-4
Description : lightweight GTK2-based systray for UNIX desktop
Architecture : x86_64
URL : https://github.com/sargon/trayer-srg
Licenses : MIT
Groups : None
Provides : trayer-srg
Depends On : gtk2
Optional Deps : None
Required By : None
Optional For : None
Conflicts With : trayer-srg
Replaces : None
Installed Size : 45.96 KiB
Packager : T.J. Townsend <blakkheim@archlinux.org>
Build Date : Sun 14 Jul 2024 02:32:08 AM CEST
Install Date : Wed 02 Jul 2025 07:38:27 AM CEST
Install Reason : Explicitly installed
Install Script : No
Validated By : Signature

Indeed my dir where I have all AUR packages I use doesn't contain a dir for `trayer`, and my bash history contains this:

18456 02/07/25 07:38:23 sudo pacman -S trayer

showing I installed it from the official repos. Yet, I don't see any result at https://archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q … =&flagged=, while there's some result in the AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?O=0&K=trayer

Was `trayer` dropped out of official support or something?

Yes, it was likely dropped as part of the gtk2-related package removal.

Mod note: moving to AUR Issues.
