I am having problems synchronizing with the mirror.cs.vt.edu and ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu mirrors, although they seem to throw different errors:

Here is my /etc/pacman.d/current file; testing/community/extra are the same:
# United States
Server = ftp://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/ArchLinux/current/os/i686
Server = ftp://ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/current/os/i686
Server = ftp://ftp.nethat.com/pub/linux/archlinux/current/os/i686
Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686
Server = ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/current/os/i686
I can connect to both mirrors with an ftp client but I can only navigate the gatech one. The vatech mirror seems to time out when I change directories. Is anyone else having problems with these mirrors or is it on my end? If it is on my end, any ideas?
edit: this happens with both pacman 3.0.0 and 3.0.1
edit2: interestingly, I have no problems with the vt mirror on another machine on my LAN; the problem with the gatech mirror is the same, though.
Thanks!

I've had the same problem from the gatech mirror. I figure it will resolve itself sooner or later.
I really wish there were a couple more U.S. mirrors, though.

I started getting these errors a couple of days ago. They should work themselves out I suppose.

I have had these issues too. If you change the vt mirror from ftp:// to http:// then it works like a charm. I can't get the gatech mirror to work.

I've been having problems with most American mirrors since the last big upgrade. I only have 2 left that seem to have any consistency at all, and one of them is the cs.vt.edu server listed above. Those are the only two left in my pacman.d files.

Thanks for the tip. Changing from ftp to http seems to be working! There does seem to be some mirror problems lately.

Same errors here for the last 3 or 4 days now, so I switched to another mirror.
To be honest, I've had nothing but problems with mirrors since I switched away from the ftp://archlinux.org mirror, but now that it's throttled, it's of no use for updating.

I've also had a hard time finding a working US mirror. All the usual mirrors seems broken now for some strange reason. I've been using the throttled main server because it's the only one that works.

I just got home and tried this, and I got 52KBs top speed. My connection should give me around 625KBs. And this is the best connection I've seen in days. Hmm?

I can not seem to find a good US mirror as well

I got a short lived burst to 48Kb/s ftp.archlinux.org best I've done in days too.

Same here. The max kb/s on vt server is about 60kb/s.

I switched over to Belnet half way across the globe just to see what would happen. I was able to get full speed, but the packages were way out of sync with the American servers. Something like 50 packages said that what I have installed was newer than the repos, and there should only be two.
Egads! There's craziness in the Arch world!!!

Yeah... since arch throttled.... theres nothing good now...
I used to pull almost a full mb from arch and the ga tech when they were live.

I just downloaded some updates from the virginia tech mirror using http instead of ftp. I got speeds between 100-300 K/s, which is what I had typically gotten in the past from most mirrors. I am located in virginia, though, so that might explain why I'm getting faster speeds than others.

I've been installing from ftp://ftp.nethat.com/pub/linux/archlinux/ since gatech stopped working last Sunday. I'm only getting 95-100K but it's steady. I was getting a pretty steady 600-900 from gatech prior to Sunday. I wonder if we have overburdened their server since Arch throttled their server and maybe they cut us off. I've tried all of the US servers and nethat is the only one with consistent speed if you can call 100k speed. I feel like I'm on dialup.
What would the expected monthly data transfer be in an average month for an ftp site only hosting Arch as a mirror. The reason I ask is because I have a website being hosted by www.aplus.net in California. It has 170G of storage and 2000G data transfer per month available. Would that be sufficent to host a public mirror without going over on my monthly data transfer? Right now I'm only using about 2G on the server and my monthly data transfer has been less then 100G per month.

Gatech still down. Tried nethat but it was damn slow and seemed to be several days out of date... Using the heanet.ie mirror right now. It works and it's up to date, but it's also about five times slower than it normally is (effective DDoS from all the European Archers who switched to it?).

Did you tried the ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org mirror? I get good speed from it
Offline
I'll try it, though I've had rather bad experience with ibiblio.org in the past.
(Switched over to belnet.be and it's working fine... I probably shouldn't be using these European mirrors so much though.)
Edit: Yeah, having some problems connecting to ibiblio. I think I'll stick with belnet until linux-gatech comes back online.

This morning I was able to get 300KBs from Ibiblio. This is a vast improvement over what I could do last night.

I tried ibiblio on tuesday and wednesday from Minnesota and it was slower then a 14,4 dialup

I use this mirror, I usually have a download rate of about 250K (usual) to 500K (on a good day) a second.

Someone needs to add this to the mirror list on the wiki

Thanks a bunch. So far this is a perfect replacement for archlinux.org for me.

I used the link hopstilence provided and the speed is around 100kb/s. Alright for now. But when ever I update I get this. Still downloads fine though.
