modprobe fan: not found

ok I was having some trouble after playing w/ abcde, the whole system just started acting sluggish, I checked top and it seemed kacpid was eating about 90% of cpu's resources. I found this thread at linux questions which looked similar and lo and behold modprobe fan gives the following output:
FATAL: Module fan not found.
and modprobe thermal:
FATAL: Module thermal not found.
This is a desktop PC and not a laptop though, still tried 'pacman -S acpi acpid' but still haven't been able to fix this problem. Can someone tell me what to do next?

edit: sorry this should probably be posted in Kernel & hardware issues. mods please move.
