Samba checking wrong broadcast addr.

when attempting to mount a samba share using

sudo mount -t smbfs //server/share /mnt/smb -o username=**,password=**

I get this output:

timeout connecting to 208.69.32.130:445
timeout connecting to 208.69.32.130:139
Error connecting to 208.69.32.130 (Operation already in progress)
8699: Connection to SERVER failed
SMB connection failed

I've traced that ip back to 208.67.220.220 which belongs to OpenDNS which I'm using for my nameserver. Why is it querying my nameserver instead of my broadcast of 192.168.1.255? Is there a setting I missed somewhere?

Edit: It of course works fine when given an IP address instead of a netbios? name. Its not too big of a problem since my network is static but I would still like for it to work with names jic.

Edit#2: After I have mounted this share, all files created are set to 0755. Why is the execute bit getting set for everyone? Shouldn't it default to 644 like normal? This seems to be some sort of mask since the files created on the actual box with the share on it are still 644. I don't know enough about masks to figure this out or even know where its being set. This is the /etc/fstab line that I'm using to mount the share:

//192.168.1.4/adam /mnt/smb smbfs credentials=/home/adam/.smb-obsd-cred,user,rw,uid=adam 0 0

Another question, since both boxes are *nix(Arch and OpenBSD), should i just be using NFS?

Edit #3: Ok, so the first issue was because the broadcast address on my interface was never set even though in rc.conf I have the line:

eth0="eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"

After entering: 'ifconfig eth0 broadcast 192.168.1.255' it works properly.
