problem with nvidia driver

I have notebook Acer TravelMate 634LC with 15.0" SXGA TFT LCD and GeForce2 Go.
I installed Arch from cd, then i do pacman -Syuf. After that i installed xorg, nvidia-96xx and kde [i used pacman].
And now the problem .)
I configured xorg.conf [i tried xorgconfig, hwd -x and nvidia-xconfig] and tried start X with command startx.
But I get only black screen. It looks like the Kde is runnig, but i don't see it on monitor.
In the log file of X i have no error, but these warnings:

(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): No connected display devices detected; assuming 1 CRT (CRT-0)
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device CRT-0's EDID; cannot compute DPI
   (WW) NVIDIA(0): from CRT-0's EDID.

[I didnt paste complete log because it is too long. But if it may help, i do so .)]

It seems like i dont have monitor or what .) Before Arch i used many distibutions and i havant had this problem and i cant fix it. Can anybody help me? Thank you.

Excuse my english, i am out of practice.

Re: problem with nvidia driver

It looks like your laptop's screen isn't detected. If you have a monitor around there, try plugging it a see if works wink

Anyway, i'd recommend you to set

Option "DPMS"

In your xorg.conf's monitor section

http://http.download.nvidia.com/XFree86 … dix-d.html

this might help you, esp. connectedmonitor and usedisplaydevice options. also, try to switch from the crt to the dfp in the nvidia-settings tool.

Re: problem with nvidia driver

i can't use nvidia-settings because of:

    (nvidia-settings:5405): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
             Using the fallback 'C' locale.

    (nvidia-settings:5405): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display

and when i added that options manualy to Screen section, it didnt help .(
now, i have this warnings in Xlog:

(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device DFP-0
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1400x1050"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1280x1024"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1024x768"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "800x600"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to validate any modes; falling back to the default mode
   (WW) NVIDIA(0):    "nvidia-auto-select".
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device DFP-0's EDID; cannot compute DPI
   (WW) NVIDIA(0):    from DFP-0's EDID.

I am really hopless.. .((

Hi,

I've got the very same problem, except for the fact that.. I'm running ubuntu on my Dell inspiron 5110 laptop. It has a Nvidia GT 525 (1G) video and an Intel video adapter integrated in the i7 cpu. When i install the drivers (There are numerous ways to do so in ubuntu, all resulting with the same state). When I then change the BusID to point to the PCI address of the proper video adapter, the Xorg.0.log contains the exact same lines and the ubuntu start-up music is played. I haven't still tried it with another monitor, but I expect the result to be the same.

Could you tell me if and how you have ressloved your issue?

Regards,
Dimitar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but GeForce2 Go is not exactly a gaming card... so why do you bother at all with nvidia? I used xf86-video-nouveau + nouveau-dri on Geforce4 mx440 (geforce2 chip) for years w/o any problems.

Nvidia is a pain to maintain especially on older cards, since drivers are broken with each X release and old drivers are updated last. BTW, with X 1.11, nvidia will be broken once again...
