using a vm as a firewall to its host machine

I'm thinking about setting up a nice powerful server with a number of virtual machines on it and one of the machines I was thinking of creating was a firewall.

Is it possible to have the host machine use the vm firewall or would I end up with a loop?

I have two NICs in the machine so I could dedicate one to the firewall if that would help.

Re: using a vm as a firewall to its host machine

As far as I know it's possible, some guy did it on the OpenBSD misc mailing list, I think. I'm no expert on virtualization.

It's a rather bad idea, a firewall is there for security right? If your firewall is virtual then you have to thrust both the host and the virtualization software.

Either use the host for a firewall or, better, place a machine infront it with something secure like OpenBSD. Or do both (my option).
