Hi,
I have these messages repeat every two minutes in /var/log/messages:

Apr 9 22:06:12 pazuzu sda: Write Protect is off
Apr 9 22:06:12 pazuzu SCSI device sda: write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA
Also, under heavy disk usage, the system freezes for about a minute, and the HD led is constat lit.
I think this only happened after an update, not sure.
Any ideas?

After trying various different kernel boot options, kernels, hooks, BIOS settings and modules with no luck, I remembered that WinxpSP2 bluescreened when trying to boot from this drive.
I am 100% sure there is no problem with the HD... might be a hardware issue with the Mobo (ASUS P4P800-e Deluxe).
I moved my root partition to a 40GB IDE drive and all problems are gone
