Wine fails to start.

I have a fresh installation of Wine.  I don't have a .wine folder in my home directory.

When I type 'winecfg' I get:

$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/tom/.wine'...

and then it just sits there.  If I kill it and look in my home directory, it creates a folder like '.wine-YYKcb' or some other set of random characters.  Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks for your help! big_smile

Re: Wine fails to start.

It's probably a problem with your printer driver (ppd).

Often that's combined with fonts and font pathes... but i don't know any more information about this.

Re: Wine fails to start.

Hmm, so if I stop CUPS, it works fine.  Can I get wine to ignore CUPS? (I don't think I'll need to print from wine)

Re: Wine fails to start.

As i know the CUPS support is builtin with compile options, so i don't think you can easily disable cups, at least i don't know any valid operation to disable cups within wine.

Re: Wine fails to start.

OK thanks anyway.  I'll just turn off cups when I want to use wine.  smile

Re: Wine fails to start.

Bad anyway, i'd rather search for a solution with the ppd file you use.

You might want to look at
http://www.witch.westfalen.de/Wine-HOWT … ERNALPSDRV
for using a postscript printerdriver with wine.

Also i'd suggest you trying to install the afm files... even when i guess it's not the main reason why wine fails to boot up.
