Hi,
not sure if it helps but I remember that I had similar problem a few times.
Try to force the module load order.
in my rc.conf modules are loaded in following order:
MODULES=(rtc aes-i586 twofish agpgart intel-agp drm dm-crypt e1000 ipw3945 snd-hda-intel fuse)

Thinkpad x60s with inte sound.

If you get sound working use rc.local to load alsa settings after reboot, mine got lost after every reboot.
Just add:
alsactl restore

Worth a try..

xor

Re: alsa upgrade-no sound

the latest kernel contains alsa-0.14rc3, i'll drive through the alsa bugtracker tomorrow and try to find a fix but i cannot promise anything, if you wanna help me, please also start at alsa ml mercury repository and bugtracker and point me to correct places, that would speed it up.
thanks

Re: alsa upgrade-no sound

well have you tried to switch the options of your soundcard in a mixer program?
like kmix or so, many soundcards have additional features that are controlled by switches.
if you don't get any error it could be one of the switches that are now new in alsa 1.0.14rc3

Re: alsa upgrade-no sound

Same here after kernel upgrade. Module snd_hda_intel is loaded, tried all the methods mentioned above ( downgrading alsa-lib etc), no go.
Sound came back after using the beyond kernel but that one has now problems with the fglrx-beyond sad

Re: alsa upgrade-no sound

I've had similar problem on my laptop with same sound card (snd-hda-intel), now the sound is working properly. I've done this:

#alsaconf
#vim /etc/modprobe.conf  'Add the following line at the end of the file'
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
$aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
$alsamixer
#alsactl store

Reboot and I hope it will work!

Good luck!

this bug is so anoying i wish the people upstream would fix it. its a bug in almost every kernel since .19 . their are a bunch of work around guides online that dont work for my laptop and the only fix is using old kernel, witch isnt a fix. im really disapointed in the community because this has been around so long and the kernel devs havent fixed it. so use with toshiba / gateway / hp latops with this kind of sound system are left with nothing.

shame shame. but not to arch devs i just mean upstream

Keep coming back to Arch because its hands down the most amazing distro God has given us.
