Forum-board for non-english speaking users?

Hello!

As my English isn't very good, and sometimes i don't know how to discribe my problem in English i'd like to ask if it's pssible to open a new Board for non-English speaking ArchLinux Users?
Perhaps one in German, French etc.
There non-english speaking Users could ask for help in their language and other German/French/Spanish-speaking users could help them.

I don't think that a localiced forum would / could help arch. I don't know exactly how many users are from each country, but arch would be splitted up in different groups, many Informations are said redundant (in englisch forum, in german,...) and since the arch-installation is english everyone can basicly understand english.

Neither is mine, but you reach more people when you ask in english. Although I am not a native english speaking I did unterstand your post

exactly ... keep information at least spread in the categories that exist :-)

... but what can be usefull is a button to translate the post to other languages (with babelfish: world.altavista.com ) -> we should add this wish to the phpbb-bugtracker if there is any

Hihi, babelfish is quite funny: (for the german ones)

Ich denke nicht, daß a Forum wurde/könnte helfen sich zu wölben localiced. Ich weiß nicht genau, wieviele Benutzer aus jedem Land sind, aber Bogen würde splitted oben in den unterschiedlichen Gruppen, viele Informationen sind besagtes überflüssiges sein (im englisch Forum, auf Deutsch...) und da die Bogen-Installation englisch ist, kann jeder Englisch basicly verstehen.

I don't think that we need a link to babelfish. The quality is far from being usable...

there are several reasons:

- because (see: "The Thief of Time" from T. Pratchett)
- because they have it
- because they are not we
- because it makes data unneeded redundand
- because it makes forums dificult to search
- because you cannot link a german-said post to a english-speaking people as help (normalerweise)
- because ...
imagine the other 100 reasons written down here

you background-idea was good, ... but only if you have more closed communities who do not comunicate it is realizable ... then you can setup forums in more languages --- i like the smallness of arch, so you understand what the other people are saying (besides the language) --- if we are more than 20000 people in this forum, then maybe we will need a splitt in more groups because it will not longer be able to stay informed without investing a lot of time :-)

about the language: learning english is a "must" quite everywhere for the internet :-)

my english is horribe, but i still keep trying to make people understand me ... and in most cases it seems to work --- it's a good training in language besides

And I would like to learn German ,so you see my problem if you learn english & I learn German then we still cannot talk to to each other....

The only thing we all have in common is Linux (Arch) O & now Java

well i have notice that there are some more common non-english language users on this forum. there are quite a few germans, various latin languages (spanish, portugese, etc), and so forth. i wonder if it would not be possible to have catagories on this forum for our foreign language user so that if they feel more comfortable working in their own language they can post there. i mean really it is not that much of a drain of resources. if these cata gories became very active more organization or splitting could then be done.

The problem with separate categories for different languages is, as somebody already pointed out, that potentially useful information is then also separated. As a non-native English speaker myself, I still feel much more comfortable trying to understand bad English than perfect German of French.

I also reckon that here are not that many Finnish archers that we could have forum of our own.. and even if there was Finnish category I would propably still post to the English forums.

well personally i see it as a necessary service. if you want users and users feel welcome and accepted for what they can contribute in any language there should be differnt catgories. besides if there is important enough data then those that are comfortable tranlating can do so. but to be honest problems should be generic across languages. besides, there is already plenty of diffusion of information between the mail list and forum.

it seems that more and more english is being forced upon the business world as "the" language. well it isn't. there are more that don't speak it than do.
