Re: The Compiz Topic

Today I have installed compiz-fusion on arch64. It works fine with nvidia drivers and xfce... I share /home between arch i686 and 64, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for compiz-fusion.

Normally I don't use many plugins, but I tested some of them - all these fires, blurs and reflections seem to work fine.

Re: The Compiz Topic

great!

so now we should remove "danimoth" repo from our pacman, conf? Or will it be used for new versions?

Re: The Compiz Topic

You can safely remove; tomorrow it will be deleted.

If, in the future, somethings needs tests, I post it on this thread and re-make the repo.

Thanks for now!

Re: The Compiz Topic

Maybe I'm a little bit wrong. But I uses nesl's repo so far for compiz-fusion. Now I have read this thread and looked at your repo. But I can't find packages for x86_64, only i686. nesl have packages for x86_64 and not only git version, also stable release versions.

You said, you uploaded it to [community], but x86_64 versions are not there. Are you planning to provide them? Otherwise I can build them for you on my computer.

@senjin: From which repo did you install compiz-fusion for x86_64?

Daniel

Re: The Compiz Topic

eee... from nesl's one... I didn't realized that there are two different repos, sorry.

I don't remember from which repo I installed the i686 version, 'cause I have already deleted it from pacman.conf...

Re: The Compiz Topic

hi. i've got the following problem:

i have install compiz-core, compiz-decorator-gtk and compiz-manager. I've set up xorg.conf for compiz using nvidia drivers.

when i start compiz-manager i get

[drunken@Wallaby ~]$ compiz-manager
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0398 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (1280x800) to maximum 3D texture size (4096): Passed.
Checking for nVidia: present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Starting gtk-window-decorator

metacity seems to be killed, however no desktop effects and especially no window-boarders are visible. i have to manually switch back to metacity using metacity --replace &.

any hints on how to get compiz going? thx guys...

Did you do something to fix it? When I select compiz as the window manager, i get the same behaviour (the decoration dissappears). I'm using compiz-fusion-kde from community.

yes. wiki is not clear enough. to get it work for Gnome you need to install at least compiz-fusion-gtk and compiz-decorator-gtk.

Yup, installing compiz-decorator-kde fixes the problem in KDE.

Re: The Compiz Topic

None of the packages appear to be available in community except "compiz-decorator..."

For instance

 pacman -Sy compiz-manager
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
 community is up to date
error: 'compiz-manager': not found in sync db

why do i have to install compiz-fusion-gtk?

i always thought compiz-core the corresponding window-generator package should be enough.

you're right. compiz-fusion-gtk is not obligatory.

Re: The Compiz Topic

hmm

I got a i850 and I run AIGLX, but when I run

compiz --replace

I get:

libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0

With a linux system, you can smell the victory.
With a arch system, you can taste it.

Re: The Compiz Topic

For _ALL_ decorations problems:

Please, Install compiz-decorator-gtk or -kde while brain0 rename emerald in extra, so I will be able to upload emerald 0.6.0, that is in the group 'compiz-fusion' , 'compiz-fusion-gtk' and 'compiz-fusion-kde' .

Sorry for any inconvenience.

For _ALL_ x86_64 users:

You need to wait that some x86_64 TUs recompile all packages. Sorry, but in the fact you use another distro.

Can you provide me the PKGBUILDs (and maybe patches or so) for emerald and emerald-themes? I will build it for x86_64 on my own.

Re: The Compiz Topic

Hi, I would like to know why I have to install gconf and its deps for running compiz in my system.
I'm a kde user and I use compiz from ages in arch or slackware systems without installing gconf or any gnome deps.
I've installed compiz from source many times, use the nesl's repo and Danimoth packages _without_ gconf  and _without_
any issue always.
gconf is NOT a runtime dep, as my compiz and decorator are running without it from ages in my kde systems.
Please consider removing gconf and gnome deps from the packages. If someone use gnome with compiz it would have gconf orbit and
whatever already installed without the need of this fake dependance.
thank you

Read and posts comments.

Mangus: can you enter in #archlinux channel on azzurra ? I want to talk with you about dependencies.... or send me and email. Thanks!

dw: You can try to use this script : http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcv … cvs-markup
Or, simply, doing compiz --replace move resize minimize place decoration wobbly fade cube rotate scale switcher zoom dbus .

Ise: all pkgbuilds are in AUR. Thanks you!

HardFramed: I think your problem isn't related to my packages; have you configured right Xorg / installed right drivers for you card?

Thank you all very much, and excuse me.. I'm little busy with all. Thank you for you patience another time smile

Oh, I have overlooked those pkgbuilds for emerald. I'm rebuilding it right now, but I'm not a TU, so I can't add it to community repo. I can upload those packages to my home dir to archlinx.org, but there I don't create a repo. So, feel free to download the packages manually and install it manually or a TU want to download it and add it to community.
