[request] Latest wmii

Hey, I realize we have wmii in aur, however the only real working version is wmii-3.5. Here is a note on the main page for wmii [http://www.suckless.org/wiki/wmii].

Note: wmii-3.1 is highly deprecated. The recommended version is the latest snap. It is more stable and usable than the 3.5 release.

Now, the latest snapshot can be found here: http://www.suckless.org/snaps/wmii+ixp-20070329.tgz

I tried making my own package of this but I have no experience doing so and I completely borked my system, sad

However, a cutting edge version of wmii can be found at the bottom of their main page. Their tips release. A quote from their main page:

Development

wmii is actively developed in parallel to dwm. You can browse its source code repository or get a copy using Mercurial with following command:

$ hg clone http://suckless.org/hg.rc/libixp

$ hg clone http://suckless.org/hg.rc/wmii

I would love to be a part of this project, I just have absolutely no experience with making my own packages for aur (maybe I need to start off with something a little less complex than a window manager, however wmii is quite small). Anything I can do to help or be a part of would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for your time!

Hey, I would like that too. Doing a PKGBUILD isn't that hard. Just take the one from our official package and adjust it for the devel-version. I'd help you test, too. smile

Re: [request] Latest wmii

First, use abs to get the official PKGBUILD. When you have done that you will find the files under /var/abs/extra/x11/wmii. From there, you will need to edit the PKGBUILD tob use mercurial to get the latest source and compile it the way it is described on suckless.org. You will find that this special PKGBUILD is rather easy to understand. Change the package name to reflect your changes.

Also, have a look at this:
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … s=0&SeB=nd
With a few adjustmensts you might be able to get it going again. Maybe you can even adopt it (ask a TU to help you).

The problem with this is I actually tried installing the latest wmii via mercurial and it completely borked my machine. So i'm hesitant to try it again. sad

I will try looking at that, thanks.
