Login problem. No password prompt.

Hello,

Bear with me because, I'm a n00b. I setup ArchLinux last summer as basically a fileserver with remote access with SSH and NX. Everything was great, except my box got hacked.

I followed other instruction in the forum and reset my root password with a startup disc. I was then able to login to Single-User-Mode, and reset my username password.

But if I boot up normally, when I type in the Username at login it blinks and asks for the Username again. Also all the startup things say 9G now UDEV 9G, HAL 9G, etc..., no idea what that means.

But I'm wondering why I do not get a password prompt when I type in the username.

Thank You.

Maybe your /bin/login (owned by shadow package) was replaced?

Re: Login problem. No password prompt.

I might be paranoid, but I woudn't trus a box that have been hacked. For all you know there can be several rootkits installed on it now.

I woud sugest to back up the data and set up the system again.
