latest update in gnome messed up themes

it also messed up the mouse preferences dialog.  i can't change the acceleration with the dialog.  i had to use gconf editor and manually change the setting.

anyways, when i try to go into the theme preferences, i get the following message:

The default theme schemas could not be found on your system.  This means that you probably don't have metacity installed, or that your gconf is configured incorrectly.

i've tried reinstalling metacity.  how can i check if gconf is ok?

thanks.
