I get the same error when I run hp-toolbox.

I can print fine, use cups fine, but can't access the printer through hp-toolbox. It is a networked All-In-One printer (hp6310). I don't know if this helps, but I am using Gnome. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Actually, when I read the error message, it looks like a program bug.
I would suggest looking for a bug tracker on the hplip site, and see if this has been reported. If not, you should report it, giving details of your hardware and software set-up.

I am using XFCE so as gradgrind says it may be a bug, I will look into it this weekend and let you know.

I will this weekend, haven't had a chance yet to look for the problem. Thanks!

As jarturoar stated, I re-installed xsane and hp-toolbox works now. I don't know if the two are related or not, but I feel alot better now!!
Offline
confirmed, simply getting xsane fixed the issue for me, I'll contact the maintainer and see if it should be included as a dependency or at least mentioned in the install notes.

What message are you getting? I haven't gotten hp-toolbox to run yet:

If you can install one of"xsane", "kooka", or "xscanimage", the error should go away.
