2 or 3 boots to get full Gnome desktop

Hi,
I have no (EE) errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log  only these (WW) warnings.
My problem is it takes 2 or 3 boots to get the desktop with top and bottom panels to be NOT just white bars with nothing in them. After a few times it boots up normally.
Could the below extract show any reason for this.
Everything else is absolutely great in Voodoo/Arch with Gnome. I have all sounds, video, printing, ssh etc etc working.

(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi".
    Entry deleted from font path.
    (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi").
(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi".
    Entry deleted from font path.
    (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi").
(**) FontPath set to:
    /usr/share/fonts/misc
(==) RgbPath set to "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
(==) ModulePath set to "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)

Thanks:)

ACPI fails because you are probably not running acpid. Add acpid to your rc.conf. The other warnings can be ignored.

I don't know if a missing acpid will mess up your Gnome panels, but maybe you run some ACPI dependend panel applets, such as gnome-power-manager?

Captain Spaulding
Hi,
I didn't have acpid installed so I got it with pacman and put it in rc.conf at the beginning of daemons-is that right?
Please excuse my lack of knowledge.
After that I had to reboot 4 times (before I got my panels) by going to ctl-alt-F5, logging in and rebooting.
Strange problem I think
Regards

You can get rid of the font-warnings by doing

# pacman -Sy xorg-fonts-{100,75}dpi

Or just the one of them that comes closest to your actual dpi-setting and commenting out the other Fontpath-entry in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

What happens when you ctrl-alt-backspace when x is started?

Re: 2 or 3 boots to get full Gnome desktop

Hi klixon and Captain Spaulding  and others?

I installed the fonts as advised and commented out the 75dpi one in xorg.
Same problem -boot up with blank white panels or sometimes blue screen with moveable pointer only. left or right click does nothing so its virtually frozen.
I went into xorg again and commented out both the 100 and 75dpi fonts.
I had to reboot 6 times through tty5 before I got the panels back with my icons.
As you asked, when I do ctrl-alt-backspace i can log in but get a the blank blue screen.
Now everything is fine but I'm scared to reboot:D
I really want to keep Voodoo/Arch. It's more satisfying to have virtually "built" it myself than other automated distros. I also love the "rolling" concept.
As I said, I have Gnome, nvidia card recognised, printer working, all sound and video, flash, ssh etc.
Anymore ideas please
thanks:)
