Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello All smile

As you can tell, I am a new user, but after a couple of days of installation and troubleshooting, I now have a beautiful Arch desktop running!

I started out with the what seems to be default, Ubuntu a couple years back. I since then have been pretty much devoted to Linux in general, only using god forsaken Windows when playing SWTOR or needing to use Lightroom.

Even though Linux was amazing, I was seeking more. I was good with the switch to unity at first, but then felt like I was using an OS designed for 3 year olds. I started the infamous distro hop and really started getting frustrated. Everything was either just two dumb stupid, or badly made. I needed comfort, as I had no stable developer environment either.

Then the heavens opened up and I saw the light. ARCH!!! Well, to clarify, I installed ArchBang, which was pretty awesome, then i dove in and installed the bad boy, arch itself.

So in a nutshell, Arch is probably the best distro around, especially if you don't like all the handholding going on.

So thank you devs, community, and wiki! Your help was immense! I will probably do a re-install today to get a nice clean system. Probably using Xfce.

Thanks!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey guys, heard a lot about this distro. I'm about to start a small project with the objective of learning as much as I can about Linux as possible.

I've used GNU/Linux for about 2 years now, starting with Ubuntu 10.04 and then moving on to my current Debian Squeeze. I've enjoyed every moment though I don't feel I've learned all that much, so now I'm looking for something I can build from scratch and really get stuck into.

Glad to be here

We're glad to have you here, HungGarTiger. Arch is a good choice for trying to learn about Linux. It gives you the opportunity to build your own environment.

Hi folks
I'm kinda new to Linux. I am using Ubuntu (what else) now for like 10 months and i fell in love with the Linux/Unix way. By now, I have some theoratical knowledge about unix/linux and now I also want to get some practical skills and I think for that, ArchLinux is the way to go! smile
Big thanks to all the devs, contributers and the community. I think i will feel pretty comfortable here. big_smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

What's good y'all? Cut my teeth on the Oneiric Ocelot last November. I bided my time and learned as much bash as I could until I felt ready to switch to Arch. I made it happen two months ago, and since then I've learned so much about how computers actually work. It's about time I became more involved in the community. Can't wait to see all the different permutations that Arch has taken on for each and every user on the forum tongue

Hi...! A new archer hare. I used Windows for a long time before moving to Linux/Ubuntu last year. After using Ubuntu for 10 months I decided to get my hands dirty and did my first Arch install couple of days ago thanks to the excellent Arch Wiki and Arch Linux forums.
