hi. a friend of mine has changed pc and now he has an ati x1300 pro. i suggested him to use the open source driver to use aiglx, but, if we change in xorg.conf the driver from vesa to ati (or radeon), xorg doesn't start and it says that the ati module does not exist.
before starting xorg i loaded the radeon module (with no errors).
what can i do?
thanks

Hi NeoEx,
I'm not sure but I think that this video card is not supported by open source driver.
Try installing the fglrx drivers:
pacman -S fglrx

Hi, did you install the xf86-video-ati package?

yeah, reading the wiki i figured out that the problem was that package. thanks anyway
unfortunately now the x server doesn't start and it says: no device found.
but i'm almost sure another friend of mine owned an x1300 and made it work with the open source driver (on debian). ok, that wasn't x1300 pro, but...
any idea?

From http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/ATIRadeon :
"Note that R500 series chips (X1300, X1800 etc) do not have a Radeon 2D core, so are only supported by the vesa driver (no acceleration)."

damn... it seems that i remember incorrectly.
his lspci output is:
[...]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 7183
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 71a3
[...]
it doesn't recognize the graphic board, right? how is that possible?
there are nothing we can do for fixing that?
thanks again.

Apart from switching to fglrx, no.

ehm, i forgot to say that we tried with fglrx, but, when we restart xorg, the monitor shuts down, and we can't switch to the terminal too. we had to revert to vesa via the arch cd.
but i can't understand why it doesn't recognize properly the vga. x1300 works with linux, so why it behave like this?
here is the full output of lspci, if it can help:
