World of padman : sound problem (almost solved, freezes pb inside now)

Hi,

I just installed world of padman on Arch via AUR package, and all seems fine except I can't get sound working.
I'm quite surprised because it doesn't seem there are any errors :

------ Initializing Sound ------

Any help is welcome, I can't stand to play this game which really looks fun !

Edit: I found something : if I start the game with aoss I have sound with my Audigy, but it's "jerked". I tested with my other soundcard (motherboard) and it works fine.
So I tried to play wop, but the game is really slow, I have freezes, not really playable. Someone else experiencing same problems ?

Re: World of padman : sound problem (almost solved, freezes pb inside now)

I'm having the same problem, not only with this, but all SDL games. SMC, Megamario, padman, etc.. However, I'm running KDE, and when I run them from the menu, the sound works. but running from a terminal I get no sound. I've tried using aoss, arts, no arts, esd, no esd, and every other combo I can think of. So I cant explain this, but it might be worth a try to install KDE and run it that way...

Just curious, do you have openal installed ? I personally have the "generic" version installed & works fine.

my console snippet:

------ Initializing Sound ------
Loading "libopenal.so.0"...
Allocated 96 sources.
OpenAL info:
  Vendor: OpenAL Community
  Version: 1.1
  Renderer: Software
  Extensions: ALC_EXT_capture AL_EXT_capture AL_EXT_vorbis AL_LOKI_quadriphonic AL_LOKI_play_position AL_LOKI_WAVE_format AL_LOKI_IMA_ADPCM_format AL_LOKI_buffer_data_callback ALC_LOKI_audio_channel
Sound initialization successful.
--------------------------------

Just checked the AUR build & it dosen`t have openal as a dependency, but would need it to run snd in openal (there is an option for openAL sound, from the games sound menu)
If it still fails after installing openal, have you tried the known q3 linux sound issues ?
Googles;
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … hp?t=24881
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … p?t=260975
lots more round on net, but ioquakes shouldn`t have those issues as the engine now supports openal.

Anyways good luck smile
