I've never had this problem before. If I install through the Gimmick FTP installation, this doesn't happen. I'd prefer to install through the latest installer, though.
The Voodoo detects my IDE drives as SATA drives, I'm assuming. Instead of being hda, they're sda. I don't feel like messing up my partitions (every thing's back-up anyway), so I didn't risk installing it. Is this a bug? Is there a way around it?

not an x86_64 issue. changes in kernel scsi/sata/pata were done a while back. you should follow the frontsite news.

Thanks for the reply.
I can't find this in the front page news. Can you link me? Does it have instructions on how to fix it?

Thanks. I think I understand what's going on now. Should I not worry about it?

You shouldn't worry about it - that's the way it's gonna be from now on with Linux kernel, time to get used to it ;-)

Just one question. Now that IDE drives are sda, what are sata drives going to appear as?

sdX as well. At least it's this way round for my drive.
// edit
sdX of course. If your IDE is sda, your SATA will most probably be sdb (which goes for my usb drives).

sata drives appear as sdX as well, while my IDE DVD-RW on pata hook appears as sr0.
