kernel26-2.6.21 from testing

I have an Intel DG102GC2 motherboard. It booted fine with the latest 2.6.20 kernel though had to use the kernel parameter noirqbalance to get it to boot. Kernel26-2.6.21 boots only with acpi=ht parameter. However the nvidia module loads but X cannot start. The vesa driver loads X. I am certain that the problem lies with ACPI. However I cannot get this kernel to boot with ACPI enabled on my machine.

i haven't seen an nvidia update yet .. i may have missed it .. but if i am right, the issue lies within that the nvidia pkg is just not build for ur kernel , yet ...
u could prolly build it by changing soem version numbers in the pkgbuilds .. but i duno..

Re: kernel26-2.6.21 from testing

The nvidia card in another machine of mine with an older intel motherboard works fine with the new kernel. I think it has something to do with the ACPI modules which cannot load on this system.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acpi_modules may help on finding what modules needs to be loaded,
although I'm sure this(the autoloading issue) was fixed form .20.7 .. but it may be different for the new kernel i guess

Re: kernel26-2.6.21 from testing

Just found that my other computer which does boot the new kernel also hangs at loading standard ACPI modules if a usb disk is plugged in during boot. However on removing the usb disk and resetting it boots normally. The dg102ggc2 motherboard has an ATI Chipset and not an intel Chipset. This is most probably the cause of the ACPI hang. Will wait for the new kernel to be updated.
