Strange units in conky (KiB, MiB, GiB)

Conky is working fine here (using KDE), but the units are strange: KiB, MiB, GiB. I want kB, MB and GB instead and also a fixed number of digits. How can i format that? I only found a variable for padding percentage-values.

Here's my conkyrc:

background yes
cpu_avg_samples 5
net_avg_samples 5
out_to_console no
font 7x13
own_window_transparent no
own_window_colour hotpink
xftalpha 1.0
on_bottom yes
mail_spool $MAIL
update_interval 2

double_buffer yes
minimum_size 5 5
draw_shades yes
draw_outline no
draw_borders yes

border_margin 10
border_width 2
default_color white
default_shade_color black
default_outline_color white
alignment top_left
gap_x 20
gap_y 20
use_spacer yes
no_buffers yes

Re: Strange units in conky (KiB, MiB, GiB)

I have noticed the same thing but I assumed it was some "bad code" that got added into conky in some of the latest releases because it did not use to show the units that way when I first installed it.

Those units are know as binary prefixes - see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix .

I'm sure someone else will be along soon to explain how to stop conky using them. smile

Well ... I've read the WiKi post and my conclusion is: it is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. lol
Adding those stupid letters does not help at all the end users. Is not a matter of name what confuses people, it is that they do not know what the different powers of 10 mean.

@tomk
Thanks for pointing that out. Now I know at least what those abbreviations mean.

Re: Strange units in conky (KiB, MiB, GiB)

I'm not completely sure it's conklys fault, if my memory serves me it changed at one time after an upgrade, but conky wasn't upgraded at all. I could be completely wrong though.
