No DNS resolver

Hello. I just installed the latest Arch and I have networking problems. Everything is set up fine according to ifconfig, but DNS doesn't work. I'm using a D-Link DI-604 router. I tried putting the router's IP in /etc/resolv.conf (Windows uses this IP)  but no joy. What am I doing wrong?

Re: No DNS resolver

Try to put DNS of your provider in /etc/resolv.conf, it's a common problem with D-Links.

Re: No DNS resolver

Thanks! That worked, except I also had to add the router's IP as the default gateway. Cheers.

Re: No DNS resolver

Okay now I have sound problems... A Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and although the modules are loaded, alsamixer says there's "no such device".

Re: No DNS resolver

Have you tried running alsaconf? I've never had to use it, but then I don't have anything apart from my onboard sound thingy.
What modules do you use? And what is the model/chipset/whatever for your soundcard? Have you checked the main ALSA website for how to set up your card?

Re: No DNS resolver

I ran into a bunch of other problems and gave up. I deleted Arch so I can't answer your questions. Sorry sad

Re: No DNS resolver

peace, could you tell us what problems you ran into? It might be something that will be solved in the future.
Good luck.

Re: No DNS resolver

I ran alsaconf and then only root could use the mixer. Also, trying to run Transgaming's Cedega software resulted in errors. I know that stuff was probably fixable, but I'm sick lately and don't have the patience or resolve to fix a lot of errors.
