pata_via: profe of ... failed error -16 and also ata: conflict

hello!

just installed archlinux on my laptop and I love it, better package manager than gentoo's, its much faster.

anyways I noticed that I cant turn on dma for /dev/hda it says Operation not permitted... so I tryed the newest kernel, 2.6.21.1 and saw in dmesg the following

ata: 0x1F0 IDE port busy
ata: conflict with ide0
ata: 0x120 IDE port busy
ata: conflict with ide1
pata_via: probe of 0000:0:11.1 failed with error -16

I noticed that I cant choose the old ide chipset driver, VIA82CXXX, but instead have to choose the VIA PATA one, which seems to have this problem.

the ARCH linux kernel bundled with the disto works better but it seems to be using scsi-emulation because I dont have any /dev/hda but /dev/sda then, and also I want to compile my own kernel.

So, I solved it by copying over my .config from my stationary and changing a few things then recompiling the .21.1 kernel... I should not have used the new experimental ata driver (pata_via) but the old one instead, and it works fine now.
