X won't let me drop to console

I've got X setup along with KDE and KDM, but X isn't letting me drop to console by the use of ctrl-alt-f1-4. It just goes to a black screen and I can't even get it to go back to KDE after doing this. If any config files would help diagnosing the problem please let me know.

Re: X won't let me drop to console

On the KDM screen, you will see a drop down menu that will allow you to select a number of options.
You can choose one of your WM or desktops or you can choose to go back to a console login screen instead.

That should solve your dilemma.  otherwise you want to Ctrl + Alt + Backspace and initiate 'init 3' to get to a login and when you want to go back to kdm just go back to init 5

A few years ago, using the nVidia framebuffer (rivafb) in combination with the nVidia binary drivers resulted in a similar bug. If you are using this combination, you might want to switch to vesafb for your console framebuffer and everything will work as it should.
