No sound at all.

This is really odd. Sound was working fine last night, etc.. But after a reboot, nothing. The output jacks are being powered, everything is playing like it should, no complaints about soandso device, both of my cards are listed and the modules are loaded, I'm a member of audio, etc....

It's like everything is playing, but there is something blocking the alsa output from reaching the card. Any ideas? hmm

Re: No sound at all.

Are you sure that volume is unmuted?

Check whether "lsof /dev/dsp" returns anything (you might have to install lsof first).

Re: No sound at all.

Well, when I'm not using /dev/dsp for vlc streams it returns nothing, and when I start vlc

lsof /dev/dsp
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
vlc 7209 user 5w CHR 14,3 2917 /dev/sound/dsp

I should add that I use /dev/dsp and oss for radio streams through a pci card/speakers, and everything else gets mixed and goes through the onboard card/headphones. Not that it would help per say. sad

edit- According to alsamixer everything was muted, which I didn't pick up because everything was the *same. Which is weird, but at least everything's working. Thanks for the help! smile

*You'd think I would pickup on MM being muted, but nope, I spent a good half hour checking out settings. roll
