It's very strange that the 'Tips and Tricks' window on startup fails to show any text but is just a blank window. However I can see two files 'tips' and 'tips.dat' in /usr/share/xfce4/tips/. I used
'pacman -S xfce4'
and
'pacman -S xfce4-goodies'
to install. XFCE4 works well except for this bug. Although it's not a big problem but is really annoying. Help me plz!!!

I know I'm bumping a pretty old topic, but I have the exact same problem, and I'd also like to know how to fix it (short of disabling the tips and tricks window).

I'm guessing that the tips and tricks appear like documentation and are not installed. I can't remember it working either. I just turned them off.

For me it works once on each Xfce install, then breaks. At which time I turn it off.

The problem is it hits an error when fortune is not available.
pacman -S fortune-mod
Then you can use tips or fortune.

Yeah, mine wasn't working at all. Didn't think much of it as I generally turn off straight away any 'tips and tricks' or 'daily hints' any program will give me. Just get in the way. How I despised the paperclip in MS Word....
