can't access beryl settings

whenever i try to access the beryl settings manager, i get this error message on the terminal from which i ran bery-manager:

(beryl-settings:5425): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
        Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/beryl-settings", line 35, in <module>
    locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, '')
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/locale.py", line 476, in setlocale
    return _setlocale(category, locale)
locale.Error: unsupported locale setting

i can't access the settings manager of beryl.  anyone know what's going on?

I believe you need to:

1.  Go to a term and become "root"
2.  Edit /etc/locale.gen and uncomment the local(s) you want
3.  Save /etc/locale.gen
4.  Run locale-gen

That will probably fix you up.  A more experienced user will come along soon and check my instructions (I hope!).
